Revolutionary Confessions

Confessions are currently: OPEN

Welcome to Revolutionary Confessions, for all your Utena expressing needs! Whether it's regarding the anime, manga, movie, or maybe even us crazy fans, feel free to confess away.
(But please take the time to read the rules first!)

Keep in mind there are spoilers around here. If you're in the process of watching the series, I'd highly suggest not looking any further than this, or at least make sure you have the tag "spoilers" blocked, which bigger spoilers will be tagged with.

Screenshots and artwork are either provided from my own DVDs, or taken from Empty Movement's amazing gallery.

I really feel that I don’t fit in the Utena fandom since I prefer the manga because I read it first and it’s what I’m used to. I won’t deny that Chiho Saito said some problematic things in the past, but she’s still one of my favorite mangaka and her gorgeous art is what drew me into SKU in the first place. People are 100% entitled to their opinions, if you don’t like the Utena manga that’s fine, but I wish some of those who dislike it and Saito would be more tolerant and less self-righteous

it’s kind of annoying how fans take what Ikuhara said about lesbians being pure seriously. He was kidding and his point about male love interests overshadowing female protagonists is a valid point. That often happens today and did so even more during the time Utena was written. Also, Juri is the proof right there in SKU that lesbians aren’t pure. Yuri in MP (also directed by him) also attempts sexual assault on a girl, which is clearly far from pure.

I think the main reason why Shiori ‘stole’ the boy from Juri is that she was jealous Juri was in love with someone who wasn’t her (or that’s what she thought).

The Utena ending is one of the most moving endings I have ever seen. Ever.

i think the fandom is toxic, but because one half can’t express concern without causing a fight, and the other half are completely unable to grow up and accept that their opinions don’t exist in a vacuum. can’t both sides all see about how our opinions and actions affect others just as much as we are affected by the ones we see in the show?

Once while in bed, I called my boyfriend “Oniisama”. After a pause he called me back “Anthy”. I got really turned on and as he got turned on as well we do roleplay as Anthy and Akio. Sometimes.

I’m not 100% sure what the rose symbolizes and it makes me feel stupid and ashamed. All I have been able to kind of take from it is fantasy or a false ideal, but I don’t want to associate such a lovely flower with something negative.

I wish someone would explain the symbolism of the carrot in Touga’s pocket. I’ve seen Utena essays on everything but this.

Sadly if I got a chance to go to Ohtori, I would.
